"dod" Series 2020-2021
My inspiration these days comes from society's flashy and superficial obsession with all material things and celebrities. These pieces depict images to entertain and intrigue you, from luxurious designer logos to pop reality TV icons. My work has a sense of humor to it. I implore you not to take yourself and or life too seriously. (This is one of my biggest challenges that I'm working on.) It is bright, bold, textured, and makes a statement with a side of edge. I love the glitz and glam of glitter. The glitter is challenging and a messy material to work with, and I don't feel like I can leave it out. I feel so energized when I see all the sparkling! I specialize in the use of color and pattern combinations. I want to make your eyes dance when looking at my art. I incorporate a mixed media approach employing hand and digital drawing techniques. I transfer my line art to adobe illustrator and vectorize it. This way, I can play with my designs and figure out the colors and placement of the objects. For some of the work, I create stencils and cut them with a Circut. I also do digital underpainting and have printed on canvas to get the lines crisp. All work is either printed or painted directly on the canvas. I proceed with Acrylic paint, including embellishing with glitter, glass glitter, and paint pens. Other mediums used in these pieces are Rit Dye, oil pastels, charcoal, plastic gems, and pearls.. These works have many layers and employ numerous hours. After many years of fine-tuning my digital graphic art skills, I have now found a new way to birth these hybrid paintings. I endeavor to bring a little light and fun into your day!
